Spain vs Finland Prediction: Women’s EURO | 08.07.2022

One of the front-runners to claim success at the Women’s EUROs this summer open their campaign on Friday evening, as they taken on Finland at Stadium MK. Spain will be looking to get off to the perfect start, as they face trickier assignments later in the group stages against Germany and Denmark.

Women’s EURO 2022 Preview

It promises to be a big summer for the Spanish national side, as they head into the European Championships as one of the favourites to win the top prize. That should be pressure that the majority of the squad will be able to deal with, as the lionshare of their best players compete for Barcelona, who have achieved a great deal of success in the women’s game.

Spain is currently the seventh-ranked side in the world, which is their highest ever ranking in the women’s game. They are constantly improving at the top level of the women’s game, as they reached the round of 16 for the first time at the World Cup in 2019. Their preparation for the tournament this summer has been strong. That includes a 7-0 win against Australia in late June, and a 1-1 draw against Italy in July.

Finland haven’t yet been able to build on the success that they achieved at the 2005 EUROs, as they reached the final. Since then, they have been dropping down the rankings, and are currently seen as the 29th best women’s side by FIFA. They have failed to qualify for the last two national tournaments, and they could have their work cut out this summer.

Finland come into the EUROs having failed to win either of their two warm up fixtures. They were hammered 5-1 by Japan at the end of June, before easily being beaten by the Netherlands in their final friendly before the start of the tournament.

Spain vs Finland Head to Head

The two nations have met on two previous occasions, with both being won by Spain. Spain has scored seven goals in the previous fixtures against Finland, and have only conceded once.

Spain vs Finland Prediction

The Spanish look extremely good value to get their European Championship campaign off to a winning start this Friday. They could make light work of their rivals, and could see them comfortably wrapping up a 3-0 success to get their bigger summer of action underway.
